Fifteen Years

Fifteen Years:

An email conversation.

A first date.

Many more dates beside.

A year abroad.

A long distance relationship.

A graduation.

A job, and another job too.

A tiny house, all ours.

Another new job.

Holiday, after holiday, after holiday.

An engagement.

A wedding.

A redundancy.

Another new job.

A new home! Our forever home!

Infertility.

And then finally, a baby.

Another new job!

Some hard times, and some good times, and all of the ordinary times in between.

That’s what fifteen years looks like.

For on 23rd September 2017, we celebrated fifteen years together. Our fifteen year fakeiversary. Almost more than half our lifetimes. It hasn’t always been easy, in fact in recent years being parents has been one of the hardest challenges we’ve faced together. But then I guess no marriage truly ever is easy. And now we are more than just a marriage: we are a family. So what more can we ask for?!

It probably says it all that our celebrations for our fifteen years together were low key: a day trip out on the Friday before our Fakeiversary, and the birthday party of Baby Lighty’s twin friends on the day itself. But that’s family life, isn’t it? It’s the special and the ordinary and all of the other moments mingled into one. And often, it’s the little things that make a family, and it’s the little things in life that become the big things.

Those moments pull us together, and along the way we create memories. Memories which I hope, Baby Lighty will look back on with affection. Because by creating memories, we create a family.

Fifteen years is us; Mr, Mrs and Baby Lighty. Our life together, our family.

With very many thanks to Munchkins Photography for the cover photo for this post.

    1. Ah it’s just that since we have been married, Mr Lighty says that our ‘real’ anniversary is our wedding date, so our fakeiversary is the day we started going out together, that’s all 🙂 Just a silly phrase I coined! And thank you, definitely a cause for celebration!

  1. You are so right, as we travel further through life the ‘moments’ blur into saturday morning football and sunday kids parties – it gets worse as they get bigger! But the challenge is to remain strong through the witching hour and daily grind, as well as celebrating the milestones – it’s more about the little things.
Lovely read, thanks so much for linking to #coolmumclub x

  2. Congrats on your fifteen years together – yes there are hard times and good times but the fact is you still remain solid in your foundation together. Wishing you many more happy years.#DreamTeam

  3. Happy fifteen years to the Lightys! This post had me gripped by your beautiful introduction Nic. I think you are so right that it’s everything… the big moments, the small moments, happy times and sad that all pulled together make family life and the memories that we hold so dear. A gorgeous read. #DreamTeam xx

    1. Ah thank you so much Annette! Fifteen years feels a bit mad to be honest, but it’s made up of all of those times, isn’t it? xxx #DreamTeam
