Mrs Lighty’s Liked and Loved: February 2017

When I thought about writing February’s Liked and Loved, I must admit that my first thought was, “what on earth am I going to fill it with?!” At the start of the month, our calendar looked pretty empty. But as the weeks have passed, I’ve realised that there’s still plenty to be positive about this month. The whole Liked and Loved original idea was started by Stevie of A Cornish Mum Blog, and is simply a way of chronicling all of your positives from that month, and this month I’ve discovered that even when things look a little bleak, there are still moments of sunshine!

Therefore in February 2017, Mrs Lighty has liked and loved:

  • A little bit of sunshine.

Yes it’s true that we’ve had some more snow and, of course, Storm Doris this month, but we’ve also had a couple of days where the weather has felt positively Spring-like. Baby Lighty and I walked down to our local park one sunny afternoon, and it was the first time that I braved going out sans buggy or sling. Baby Light walked the whole 10 minute walk there and back, although it did take us about half an hour each way, and it was lovely to get out for a sunny walk.

Similarly, we also had a lovely afternoon at our local Peter Rabbit Trail recently, where we didn’t even really need coats. Baby Lighty walked for about an hour on that day too, and our childminder told us that he’d also walked for about an hour with her at our local Gruffalo Trail recently as well. I’m loving that he’s enjoying walking and we can have a bit more freedom from the sling and buggy!

  • A family day out.

Mr Lighty has had some annual leave to use up this month, and so we headed to Ashlyns Farm last week. We had such a fun day which included lots of walking (again!), lots of animals, outdoor play, indoor soft play and a yummy lunch.

Meeting the meerkats.

I couldn’t believe how brave Baby Lighty was going down the big slide in the soft play, although my heart was in my mouth on his last attempt when he couldn’t seem to get his legs untangled from underneath him and I thought he was going to ‘bump’ down rather than slide down, and then when he eventually ended up sliding down face first!

  • Mrs Lighty in the WI Life.

Just when I thought my 15 minutes of fame were definitely over, up I popped in the WI Life magazine. I must admit, Baby Lighty and I have been in it before, when we took part in the Women’s Institute’s centenary celebrations, but it’s still bizarre to see myself in the mag, having been involved with the WI’s Support Overdue campaign!

Yep, that’s Mrs Lighty in the WI Life magazine.

  • 5,000 #HappyLittleButtons!

As you may or may not know, Annette from 3 Little Buttons, Dawn from Rhyming with Wine and I run our very own little Instagram community, Happy Little Buttons. It’s been a project that we’ve really enjoyed, but I think the three of us would be the first to admit that we didn’t think it would grow this big this quickly! February has been the month that we’ve hit 5,000 tagged posts, and it’s just amazing to see the Instagram world embracing our little hashtag!

  • Family and Friends

We’ve also had some lovely Saturday afternoons with family and friends. Firstly with our favourite twinny friends, and then with Mummy Hatchy, Nanny Kersey and Baby Lighty’s Great, Great, Great Aunt Phillipy (yes you did read that correctly)! As with all the best outings, these did, of course, include lots of good food, good cake and good tea!

  • Date Night!

In amongst all of this, Mr Lighty and I also managed to sneak in a date night! It came with a bit of a shocking realisation that we hadn’t been out just the two of us since our fifth wedding anniversary last April, so when plans with our friends fell through at the last minute, we thought we might as well use the baby sitting token that we had wisely!! The meal itself was a bit disappointing, but then we had drinks in a pub that we love near to us, and just the time together made up for it. Although our conversation did keep straying back to a certain little person of course…

Date night!

So that’s been February for us! And we still have pancakes to come tonight! I’m looking forward to March, as the weather hopefully milder and my social calendar starts to fill out. So I’ll see you here this time next month!
