When Mr Lighty took a photo of a very pregnant Mrs Lighty on Baby Lighty’s due date, at 40 weeks pregnant, I was determined to remember to get a photo of Mrs Lighty and Baby Lighty once he reached 40 weeks old. And that day is now here!
40 weeks in, 40 weeks out…what’s the difference?
40 weeks of hope, joy and excitement, followed by 40 weeks of hope, joy and pride.
40 weeks of feeling ravenous but being careful to eat healthily, followed by 40 weeks of snatching lunch and dinner between nap times and worrying about what Baby Lighty is eating.
40 weeks of morning sickness, insomnia, heartburn and unimaginably painful migraines, followed by 40 weeks of knowing it was all worth it.
40 weeks of overwhelming tiredness and drinking decaf tea, followed by 40 weeks of a totally different kind of tiredness and a motherhood being seemingly sponsored by definitely-not-decaf tea!
40 weeks of worry, followed by 40 weeks of knowing that that was only the beginning of my worries!40 weeks of being told that my life would be turned upside down, followed by 40 weeks of having my life turned upside down in the lovliest of ways.
40 weeks of seeing my body change and enjoying gorgeous baby kicks, followed by 40 weeks of baby smiles and holding tiny hands.
40 weeks of an overwhelming, all-consuming love, followed by 40 weeks of feeling that love grow beyond belief.
How your life can change in the space of 18 months! That’s 40 weeks in, and 40 weeks out!

Aw this is lovely π I hardly got any photos of me with a bump so haven’t got such lovely comparison photos but, of course, I have plenty of photos of the kids out of the bump – I always think pregnancy seems to last forever and yet ’40 weeks out’ just flies by! I suppose that’s the joy of having a little one to keep you entertained! #bigpinklink
Yep definitely quicker once they’re here!! I’ve hardly got any photos of my bump either, and I really regret it, so I’m glad I took this due date one and also have been trying to take regular comparison photos of Baby Lighty with the giraffe toy. They’re fab to look back on already! Thanks so much for reading my post π #bigpinklink
Very very true re 40 weeks of worry, only to realise that it doesn’t even count as proper worry haha! My son is two and a half and it is never ending. We had a melt-down in Matalan car park today because he wouldn’t hold my hand. argh!
Ah I know! When I was diagnosed with low Papp A in pregnancy I kept thinking that I couldn’t wait until the baby was here so that I could stop worrying. Ha!! If only I’d realised how much worse it would get!! Thanks so much for reading my post π
Ahhh this reminded me of when I was pregnant with my first (and had time to enjoy the process!) I never wanted him to come out, he was all mine, wrapped up in there, kicking and hiccuping and wriggling around! Selfish I know but I think he must have known as I went 2 weeks over and had to be induced. A lovely post, sounds like it’s been a tough but rewarding 80 weeks! #bigpinklink
Ah yes, all those baby kicks, all the excitement, not knowing exactly how your life would be turned upside down! It’s lovely isn’t it? Thanks for reading my post π #bigpinklink
what a wonderful blog. I love the idea of looking at this experience from both sides of the big event. Loved loved loved it!
Ah thank you so much, that’s very kind of you! I like to do things that are a bit different, so definitely wanted to take a comparison photo! Thanks for taking the time to read my post π
Aaah, this is the sweetest, loveliest thing I’ve read all day!! And so, so true!! What a great shot you got of baby Lighty for his 40 weeks of being on the outside! I could feel the love and pride radiating from your words, he’s obviously brought and incredible amount of joy and chaos to your world! I’m also very impressed by how slim you look after 40 weeks-I still look 8 months pregnant 2 years down the line…! Thanks so much for sharing with #bigpinklink!
Ah thank you, that’s very kind! We waited a long time for Baby Lighty but he’s definitely been worth the wait, I’m glad that came through in the piece! And don’t worry, Baby Lighty is hiding the remains of the baby weight, ha!! Thanks for hosting #bigpinklink π
What a brilliant idea! I just frantically tried to work out if I am too late to do this…which I totally and completely am! You look amazing in both pictures…

Time goes so quickly doesn’t it? I wanted to do a 9 months in, 9 months out photo but I only remembered about 2 months too late! Thanks for linking up to #HappyDaysLinky x
We’ve been taking 4-weekly photos of Baby Lighty so I was particularly looking forward to 40 weeks! Thank you for having me on the #HappyDaysLinky, I hope it was the right type of content π xxx
Well done for remembering! Do you know, despite being a blogger for this pregnancy I have really been rubbish at getting bump photos. I really need to document it all better! This is such a lovely post, definitely the right sort of happy to be sharing. xxx #HappyDaysLinky
Ah glad it was the right sort of content π I was rubbish at getting bump photos, I’ve got about 4 in total. Which is why I’ve been so determined to regularly take them of Baby Lighty!! Thanks for having me on #HappyDaysLinky π
