One of the reasons Mrs Lighty started this blog was to document the early days of Baby Lighty’s life. So when you have a week of firsts, it’s important to blog about these, right?
And that’s exactly what we’ve had here at Lighty Towers: a week of firsts! With Baby Lighty’s first Halloween, first time sleeping in his big boy cot, and first swimming outing, it’s been an exciting week for Mr and Mrs Lighty (and Baby Lighty too, I hope!).
It all started last Thursday…
Originally, I wasn’t going to buy into the whole Halloween / baby thing. I didn’t really see any reason to buy him a special little outfit to wear (unlike Christmas, which is a whole different kettle of fish! Baby Lighty may just have four Christmas outfits already – and it’s only just November!). We’re not really a big Halloween celebrating family, other than the fact that Mother-in-Law Lighty celebrates her birthday at this time of year. But then we were invited to lunch with our NCT friends, which turned into a bit of a Halloween party for the littlies.
Suddenly the question of what to wear raised its head – and I’m not talking about Mrs Lighty’s attire! Worry not, I thought, Baby Lighty has got a black cat outfit – perfect! Except for the fact that sized at 0-3 months, it was a tad too small for nearly 5 month old Baby Lighty, that is; like legs-scrunched-up too small that it was tantamount to child cruelty! So this of course necessitated a trip to the shops…
One trip later and Baby Lighty was fully kitted out with a skeleton outfit! We had a lovely time with our NCT friends and the outfit got worn a second time for Mother-in-Law Lighty’s birthday, too. And the cheapskate part of Mrs Lighty didn’t at all think that as it’s basically a sleep suit with a skeleton printed on it, Baby Lighty can also wear it as pyjamas until he grows out of it, nooooo…
So then we move on to swimming (or should that be we swim onto swimming?!). As firsts go, this was a lovely one for Mr and Mrs Lighty. We took Baby Lighty for the first time last Friday to our local public pool as we wanted to get him at least a little bit used to the water before we go away later on this year. We didn’t know how he’d react; maybe with a little bit of trepidation, maybe a few tears, but actually he loved it! We expected him to sit up in the rubber ring we’d bought him, but instead he wanted to lay forwards in it, kick his legs and propel himself across the water to the extent that Mr Lighty and I had to make sure we kept up!!Our only regret with the swimming was that we couldn’t take photos as it was a public pool. If we’d thought about it, we would’ve hired a private pool for an hour to capture those precious first pool moments on camera. We’ll just have to make do with the photos we took in the changing room!
And so our final first of the week: sleeping! Baby Lighty slept in his big boy cot for the first time, in his own room, sob! This meant mixed emotions for Mrs Lighty: anxiety at whether Baby Lighty would be ok in his own room and mummy guilt at moving him into there before the recommended six months. But as the photo below shows (which I may have included just because I think it’s so cute!), he really was getting too big for his Moses basket, and we couldn’t fit his cot into our room. So far, touch wood, as it’s turned out, Baby Lighty has been absolutely fine. Mrs Lighty on the other hand has to get up at least three times each night – every night – to make sure that he’s still breathing…and I’m very sure that that isn’t a first for mothers everywhere!Proud to be linking up with:
Adorable picture, I love the skeleton onesie! Aww it sounds like a challenging but lovely week for you all, so many big firsts! #bestandworst
Thank you, I love the skeleton onesie too!! And he may just have worn it to bed the night before last, ha!! Thanks for reading 🙂 #bestandworst
What a cutie!! I’m not a Halloween person either but as soon as I saw those costumes I buckled!! Baby Lighty looks so gorgeous in his swimming outfit and glad all went well. I wouldn’t have the Mummy guilt for moving him to his cot. Our girly was out at 8 weeks and she slept so well!! Thanks for linking up with #bestandworst and see you soon xx
Thanks for having me on #bestandworst! Ah thank you, I know the little Halloween costumes are gorgeous…can’t wait for Christmas, ha!!
Aw so cute! It’s amazing how much they grow isn’t it? When you put those pics side by side it’s mind blowing. We moved our littlest into his own room a lot earlier than recommended – but we all slept so much better for it as we were all waking each other up – and Mstr Tot grunts like a dinosoar all night!) Lovely post xx
Thank you! I know, where’s my tiny baby gone?! Mind you, we got our money’s worth out of the Moses basket!! Xxx
